Pocket Square started in 2012 after a few too many drinks in Sydney. Ryan & Lance wondered why there wasn’t an agency in New Zealand (or Australia for that matter) who was offering specialised support to fashion designers and retailers. They could see there was a real need for someone to step in and help shape what was still a relatively new industry. Within two years, Pocket Square had worked with some of the biggest names in the industry including Superette, Kate Sylvester, Stolen Girlfriends Club & Juliette Hogan.
It quickly became clear that Pocket Square could help other retail brands communicate their brand story and values to their customers. The importance of telling a brand story throughout the shopping experience, balancing form with function and scaling rapidly across wholesale, POS and eCommerce became our bread and butter.
Initially working with Magento and Magento Enterprise, the team at Pocket Square were managing over $100m in annual revenue and all the stress that came with that including security patches, PCI compliance and global infrastructure requirements. When we discovered Shopify and Shopify Plus, we weren’t sold. It didn’t have the flexibility our customers demanded. But a year later when we looked again, we were blown away with how much the platform had grown and quickly became New Zealand's first Shopify Plus partner.
